SHIMOGA: Canara Gramin Vikasa Vahini, a scheme to keep farmers informed about the latest happenings in the farm sector has been launched by the Canara Bank, the lead bank in the district.

Shimoga is among the 50 districts in the country where the scheme has been launched.

A vehicle has been kept for the exclusive promotion of the scheme.

The vehicle is used to take the bank staff to villages regularly to disseminate information about agriculture, crop insurance, farm loans, credit facilities, kisan credit cards, self-help groups and community mobilisation.


The comprehensive economic inclusiveness, which is one of the main activities of the district lead bank, is sought to be implemented through the scheme.

Farmer organisations, self-help groups, government departments and non-governmental organisations working in the field of agriculture and rural development are being involved in the implementation of the scheme.

Joint Director of Agriculture Manjappa pressed the vehicle into service here in the presence of the Assistant General Manager of Canara Bank V.R. Bailur and Divisional Manager H.N. Suryanarayana.
