Chitradurga: The response to the bandh called by the Railway Horata Samiti on Monday in protest against the Railway Budget overlooking the district was partial.

The samiti has alleged that Railway Minister Lalu Prasad had failed to meet their demands. Barring a few educational institutions and business establishments that were closed, life in the city was normal. Some restaurants remained closed till noon, but opened later.

Commuters faced some problems entering the city, as samiti activists stopped private and government buses outside. Most government offices and banks remained open, but the activists reportedly asked them to close down. The reason for the lukewarm response to bandh was said to be the lack of support given to the samiti by any major political party.

Earlier in the day, several activists supported by members of the Chitradurga Bar Association staged a protest near Mahatma Gandhi Circle. They chanted slogans against Mr. Lalu Prasad.
