TUMKUR: Authorities clamped prohibitory orders in Tumkur on Friday following an unconfirmed report that miscreants went to Mahatma Gandhi Road and shouted slogans against a certain religion.
The ban orders will remain till midnight on Saturday, according to official sources.
As a precautionary measure, the Tumkur Police took out a flag march of their forces around strategic areas in Tumkur, which included Kuripalya and Poor House Colony, that are potential areas of communal clashes.
Superintendent of Police Harsha P.S. said three platoons of the Karnataka State Reserve Police and two of the Tumkur District Armed Reserve Force have been stationed in strategic locations.
Over 600 police personnel have been deployed around the city. Day and night beats have been strengthened.
Mr. Harsha, however, said miscreants, if found, would be dealt with sternly.
