Udupi: The Udupi district administration has banned the sale of alcoholic beverages during the gram panchayat elections and counting of votes.

Deputy Commissioner P. Hemalatha told presspersons here on Wednesday that the sale of alcoholic beverages would be banned in Udupi and Karkala taluks from 7 a.m. on May 7 to midnight of May 8 while the ban would be in force in Kundapur taluk from 7 a.m. on May 11 to midnight of May 12.

The sale of alcoholic beverages would be banned in the entire district on May 17, the day of counting of votes, from 6 a.m. to midnight, she said.
