Thousands of Muslims gather at Idgah Maidan to offer prayers on the occasion

Thousands of Muslims gathered at the Idgah Maidan in Tilak Nagar here to offer prayers on the occasion of Bakrid, or Id-ul-Adha here on Monday.

Prayers were also offered at various other mosques in the city.

Members of the community greeted each other with the traditional embrace. Most of the business establishments owned by Muslims remained closed throughout the day.

The Khazi of Mysore, Moulana Mohammad Usman Sharief, led the prayers at the Idgah Maidan.

Mysore district in-charge S.A. Ramdas, who was a guest, greeted the members of the community on the occasion, seeking their cooperation in ensuring peace in society and in bringing about all-round development in the State.

The State Government was committed to the development of the Muslim community, he said. Commissioner of Police Sunil Agarwal also extended greetings to the Muslims.

Prominent personalities from the community took part in the prayers.
