Belgaum: Azim Telgi, brother and co-accused of the prime accused in the multi-crore fake stamp paper racket, Karim Telgi, has denied that he harassed Narayan Maruti Mayekar and his wife, Sunita, or had even issued any threats to the Mayekars.

Talking to presspersons here on Wednesday, he claimed innocence stating that the Mayekars, who are members of the Khanapur Town Panchayat, were his close friends until recently.

However, their relations turned bitter following a land dispute wherein he (Azim Telgi) was also a party. He also denied that he or Irfan Talikoti had ever abused or humiliated Ms. Mayekar.

He said the Mayekars have become hopeless and fear that they would lose two acres of land if there was a fresh survey by the Revenue Department.

They were holding him (Azim Telgi) responsible just because he was supporting a poor man, Narayan Masekar, who is also a party in the land dispute.

He said he was not arrested in any other case except the fake stamp paper racket.

He said that he was a good person who believed in helping the poor.
