Lexicographer and writer G. Venkatasubbaiah and writer L.S. Seshagiri Rao will receive the Sri Vanamali Seva Award for 2011. The annual award will be given away by Sri Vanamali Charitable Trust, Mysore.

The awards will be presented at a function at Sri Vivekananda Hall on the premises of Mahajana PU College at J.L. Puram here on August 26 at 5 p.m. Each award comes with a cash prize of Rs. 25,000, a bronze idol of Sri Vanamali and a citation.

N.S. Tharanath of Kuvempu Institute of Kannada Studies, Mysore, will deliver the address after presenting the awards.

In a press release here, the trust said that Prof. Venkatasubbaiah's contribution to Kannada language and literature was immense. His Kannada-to-Kannada dictionary in seven volumes was considered a priceless contribution to the language, it stated.

With more than 100 works to his credit, Prof. Venkatasubbaiah is the recipient of many awards such as the Sahitya Akademi award and the Masti, Shamba and Sediyapu awards.

Prof. Rao has brought out 75 works in Kannada and English in his six-decade-long career. He has served as a lecturer in English at Central College in Bangalore. Also, he has served as a member of various literary award committees, including the Jnanapith Award committee. Prof. Rao has won the Kendra Sahitya Akademi and Masti awards.
