The Udyavara Friends Circle would be instituting an award in the memory of the social worker Manjunath Udyavara.

Udyavara Nagesh Kumar, president of the awards selection committee of the association, told presspersons here on Monday that the award to be instituted would be called ‘Manjunath Udyavara Prashasti’. The award would be given annually to five persons in five fields.

The five fields were culture, education, social service, sports and Yakshagana. The award will carry with it cash of Rs 10,000 and a citation. An awards selection committee would select the persons for the awards in the five categories. The awards would be given away on March 16, which is the birth anniversary of Manjunath Udyavara.

As head of Udyavara Friends Circle, the late Manjunath Udyavara was instrumental in the renovation of the Hindu crematorium and construction of a playground in Udyavara, Mr. Kumar said.
