BANGALORE: Lok Shikshana Trust has instituted an award in memory of late Congress leader Haranahalli Ramaswamy for public service.

Trust chairman Ashok Haranahalli told presspersons here on Saturday that the award, carrying a cash prize of Rs. 2 lakh, would be given every year to an individual who has achieved excellence in the field of public service.

The award-winner would be selected by a committee headed by G. Venkatasubbaiah. The other members of the committee are the former Chief Justice of India M.N. Venkatachalaiah, the former Chief Justice of Kerala High Court V.S. Malimath, Kannada writer S.L. Bhyrappa and the former Chairperson of the Karnataka Legislative Council Rani Satish. Mr. Ashok Haranahalli said a separate corpus had been created for the award. He said another committee had been set up under V.N. Subba Rao to publish the thoughts of Haranahalli Ramaswamy. The committee, he said, would publish a magazine on Kannada journalism.
