DHARWAD: Autorickshaw drivers of Dharwad staged a protest in front of the Kalabhavan on Thursday against the alleged harassment by some police officials.

The office-bearers of the Autorickshaw Drivers’ Association of Dharwad complained that some police officials were unnecessarily harassing the drivers, although they were following traffic rules.

The drivers, especially those who ferry schoolchildren to various schools in Dharwad, complained that the traffic police personnel were targeting them and also using foul language against them.

They said that if the situation continued they would be forced to intensify the agitation seeking action against such police personnel.

Grievances

The drivers narrated their grievances before senior police officials who visited the spot of the agitation.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Sanjiv Patil told the drivers that steps would be taken. Following the assurance given to them, the drivers submitted a memorandum before dispersing.
