DHARWAD: Members of the Dharwad Bar Association observed a “Black Day” on Friday condemning what they termed as police atrocities on advocates in Chennai on February 19.

The advocates, who tied white ribbons around their shoulders to condemn the incident, held a meeting to express protest against the police action.

The protest was in response to a call given by the Bar Council of India and State Bar Council.

The speakers at the bar association meeting condemned the police action and urged for an inquiry into the incident.

They said those involved in the atrocities against the lawyers should be punished.

President of the Bar Association V.D. Kamaraddi presided over the meeting, which was attended by senior advocates B.P. Dhanashetty, Shivanand Bhavikatti and Ashok Desai.

The protesting advocates then attended court proceedings with white ribbons round their arms.

A memorandum condemning the attacks on lawyers was later submitted to the district administration.
