Several members of the Mandya District Congress Committee (MDCC) have raised a banner of revolt against the selection of actor and the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) vice-president M.H. Ambareesh as the party nominee for Mandya Assembly constituency.

Nearly 300 people attended a meeting convened here on Saturday and passed a resolution to urge the former Minister and MDCC president M.S. Atmananda to contest the election as an Independent candidate. Later, they visited Mr. Atmananda’s residence at Subhash Nagar and requested him to contest the Assembly election from Mandya as an Independent candidate as the party had sidelined him.

Mr. Atmananda told the district Congress members that he would announce his decision in the next two days, and he added that he would remain with the Congress and does not have plans to quit the party.
