They can get documents and register new vehicles on Monday morning

Farmers will be educated on rules and driving skills through a video showLearners' licence will be issued on the day of the test

DAVANGERE: The Regional Transport Office here has reserved morning session between 10.30 a.m. and 1 p.m. every Monday exclusively for farmers to help them get documents such as learners' licence, driving licence and new vehicle registration.

H.J. Thembad, Davangere RTO, told The Hindu here on Tuesday that most of the farmers did not till the fields on Monday. In fact, many farmers would not tie bullocks to carts on Monday and they bathe the animals on that day. Taking note of this "self-declared holiday", the RTO has fixed Monday morning session exclusively for farmers.

Others could get their documents between 9 a.m. and 10.30 a.m. on Mondays, he said adding that Motor Vehicle inspectors and other officers would be present at the office by 9 a.m. on Monday.

Farmers would be educated on the rules and driving skills through a video show at the office on Monday and later an oral test for learners' licence would be conducted for them, Mr. Thembad said. Motor vehicle inspectors would conduct test for farmers applying for learners' and driving licences.

Learners' licences would be issued the same day to farmers who pass the tests. Driving licences would be given the next day to farmers who passed tests, Mr. Thembad said. He said that the inspectors would examine the driving skill of illiterate farmers without insisting on written tests.
