The state cooperative department has suspended Mohan Nimbalkar from the post of the assistant registrar of cooperative societies controlling dairy cooperative societies in Kolhapur district in response to complaints by the societies against his alleged misuse of power and corruption. The suspension order was issued by the department’s commissioner Madhukar Chaudhari on Saturday.
Symbolic funeral of minister
Effigies of the deputy registrar of co-operative societies Sunil Shirapurkar and State Minister Radhakrishan Vikhe-Patil were taken out on a symbolic funeral by Shivsena activists in Kolhapur on Saturday. The activists were agitated at the inaction of these officials despite the order to appoint an administrator for Kolhapur Agricultural Produce Market Committee a month ago. The minister’s stay later shielded the committee directors who are allegedly involved in illegal activities, the Sena claimed.
Karad jeweller looted
Sachin Hake, a jeweller, was returning after closing his shop at Shere near Karad in Satara district when he was robbed by three persons on Friday night. The gang threw chilly power in Mr. Hake’s eyes and took away 1 kg gold, 6 kg silver and a cash box containing Rs. 1 lakh – a total loot of Rs. 35 lakh. Police tried to trap the thieves by road blockades but have not been able to trace them.
