The boycott of the Legislative Assembly session by the Opposition Congress and the Janata Dal (Secular) demanding a debate on the issue of corruption in the State Government under an adjournment motion on Thursday resulted in Speaker K.G. Bopaiah adjourning the House sine die.

Making the concluding remarks in the afternoon to empty Opposition benches, Mr. Bopaiah said that though planned as a 10-day session, the Opposition leaders did not attend the Business Advisory Committee meeting convened for sorting out the issue. He expressed his regret over the absence of proceedings or transactions, barring the passage of some Bills, without the participation of the Opposition parties.

The Speaker said that he told the Opposition leaders to raise the corruption issue during the debate on the motion of thanks to the Governor H.R. Bhardwaj for his address to the joint session of the legislature, but they did not heed his advice.
