Asnotikar’s call to popularise chess

A State-level chess competition for students of pre-university colleges was inaugurated by Anand Asnotikar, Minister for Fisheries, Science and Technology, here on Monday.

The competition is being held at BGVS College in Sadashivagad here.

Inaugurating the competition, Mr. Asnotikar said that chess would help increase memory and logical reasoning among students.

The game should be popularised among youngsters, he said.

The chess competition will continue till Tuesday evening.

A total 310 students from across the State are participating in it.

Five boys and five girls from each district are participating in the competition, according to the organisers.

B.M. Shrikantaiah, Deputy Director of Pre-University Education, and Prakash Rane, principal of Durgadevi PU College, were among those present.
