HUBLI: Health and Family Welfare Minister B. Sriramulu has assured the Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) that the department would take steps to fix monthly honorarium to the activists and provide uniforms and cellphones to them.

Karnataka State Association of Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) State general secretary D. Nagalaxmi told presspersons here on Friday that the Minister gave this assurance to a delegation of the association, which met him in Bangalore on March 1. Ms. Nagalaxmi said the Minister told the delegation that the department had the necessary funds to meet the demands of the activists and he would take steps to bring them into force at the earliest.

She said the delegation urged the Minister to take steps for regularisation of the services of the ASHAs.

However, he did not give any assurance in this regard as he did not have the authority to take the decision on the issue.

But the Minister promised to take up the issue at the appropriate level, Ms. Nagalaxmi said.
