SHIMOGA: Shimoga MP B.Y. Raghavendra said here on Monday that the Union Government had sanctioned grants for the development of national highways and other roads in the district.

Speaking to presspersons, he said that a 10-km stretch between Beeranahalli and Gurupura on National Highway 13 had been taken up for development at a cost of Rs. 6.9 crore.

The work was in progress, he added.

He said that Rs. 3 crore had been sanctioned to take up work on National Highway 13 from Gurupura on Holehonnur Road to Sahyadri College. A 3.2-km stretch from Malavagoppa to MRS Circle on National Highway 206 would be developed at a cost of Rs. 12 crore.

Another 20-km stretch between Sandesh Motors on N.T. Road and Sakrebylu on National Highway 13 would be developed at a cost of Rs. 11 crore and the stretch between Bhargavi Petrol Bunk and Ayanur on Sagar Road would be developed into a four-lane road at a cost of Rs. 20 crore.

He said that Rs. 52 crore had been sanctioned by the Union Government to take up the fifth phase of road work under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana.
