Another complex to come up near Gandhi Mandir

SHIMOGA: A much-awaited mega project of the Shimoga City Municipal Council — the Shivappa Nayaka Market Complex — will be launched on Tuesday by Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, president of the City Municipal Council N.J. Rajashekhar said that along with this, foundation stone would be laid for the construction of a complex near Gandhi Mandir on Nehru Road.

He said that the CMC was thankful to Mr. Yeddyurappa for sanctioning money to take up development works in and around Shimoga.

Mr. Rajashekhar said that the construction of the Shivappa Nayaka Complex would be completed within 24 months and the new CMC complex on Nehru Road would be ready within 18 months.

He said that Rs. 30 crore had been pooled for the development of Shimoga city under the Small and Medium Town Development Project (SMTDP) in 2009-10 and 2010-11.

It had to be utilised for various development works within two years.

He said that a plan had been prepared under the leadership of the district administration. It had received approval of the State Government, he said.

Explaining the features of the new commercial complexes, he said that the Shivappa Nayaka Market Complex would have three floors. It would have a cellar where nearly 300 cars and 200 two-wheelers could be parked.

He said that the ground, the first and the second floors would have shops and food courts. The second floor would have two multiplex theatres and other public facilities. The complex would also have one escalator and five lifts and staircases.

The complex would be built at an estimated cost of Rs. 62 crore under the public-private-partnership which would be taken up by the Bearys Group. Another complex which would be built near the Gandhi Mandir would cost Rs. 2 crore, he said.

Commissioner of the City Municipal Council Jayanna and municipal Vice-President Lakshmamma Sannappa were present.
