Marked improvement in pass percentage in PUC results this year

Deputy Director of Pre-University Education is happy with the district's performance

District held the 9th spot in State last year

MYSORE: The district was ranked 12th in the Pre-University examination results which were announced here on Friday, and has improved its pass percentage by nearly 11 over the previous year.

In all, 32,766 students including repeaters had appeared for the examination of which 16,928 students passed. But of the freshers numbering 22,622 students, only 14,239 passed. The total pass percentage was 64.13 which is higher than the previous year's pass percentage of 53.91.

The Deputy Director of Pre-University Education, Chandramma, said she was satisfied with the overall performance of the students in the district and though the district has slid from 9th position last year to 12th position this year, the pass percentage had increased and that was encouraging. She said another significant aspect of this year's result was that the pass percentage in Mysore district was impressive despite strict vigilance during examination.

Commerce stream shines

While there were 16,062 students from the Arts stream, 7,583 students appeared from the Commerce stream and 9,121 students from the Science stream. The performance of Arts students was poor compared to Science and Commerce. The pass percentage in Arts was only 40.64 per cent with 6,527 students having cleared the examination. In the Commerce stream, 4,715 students passed out of 7,583 who appeared, acquiring a pass percentage of 62.78. In the Science stream, 5,686 students passed out of 9,121 and the pass percentage was 62.34.

100 p.c. pass

Some of the city's leading colleges fared as expected with Sri Ramakrishna Vidyashala, run by the Ramakrishna Ashram, registering 100 per cent results. Of the 56 students who appeared for the examination, 31 scored distinctions, 24 first class and one student passed in second class. Swami Muktidananda, correspondent of the Vidyashala said the aggregate average marks of the entire class was 83.50 per cent and Aditya R. Shenoy topped the merit list scoring 572 out of 600 marks. In addition, 10 students scored 100 marks in different subjects.

The performance of Marimallappa's Pre-University College was impressive this year, with the college registering a pass percentage of 97.52. Out of 850 students who appeared for the examination, 829 passed with 136 securing distinction, 484 first classes, 132 second classes and 77 pass.

Students of Sadvidya Pre-University College too notched up good results. Out of 556 students who appeared for the examination, 290 walked away with distinctions, 227 first classes, 28 second classes and three with pass. The overall pass percentage of the institute was 98.5. A. Aditya, with a score of 585 marks out of 600 led the merit list, while Riti Manisha D'Silva, with a score of 583, was at second place in the Science stream.

The Sadvidya Semi-residential college too registered impressive results. Out of 126 students , 118 students passed with 14 distinctions and 68 first class. The Vijaya Vittala Vidyashala in Saraswathipuram put up a stupendous performance. Out of 190 students who appeared, 69 had distinctions, 104 first classes, 12 second classes and three passes.
