Belgaum: Writers, including poets and journalists, have great social responsibility and are expected to respond to problems in society, senior journalist Abbur Raja Shekhar has said.

He was speaking at a function after releasing Aa Nela Ee Nela, a collection of poems in Kannada by K.N. Doddamani of Mangawati, a border village in Athani taluk, here on Sunday.

The programme was organised by Kala Gangadhar Samskrutik Vedike and Suma Prakashan.

Writers had the potential to influence governments in . This had been proved on many occasions in the recent past, he added.

Earlier, Shivanand Kelaginmani, member of the Karnataka Sahitya Academy, spoke about the book.

He said Dr. Doddamani's poems were refreshing and depicted impact of modernisation and technological developments on rural life.
