MYSORE: Three masked persons barged into a house in Kanakadasanagar in Dattagalli extension here around 7 a.m. on Tuesday, threatened the residents, and made away with valuables estimated at Rs. 4 lakh.

Shashikala, wife of Thamme Gowda, was in the house along with her daughter and mother-in-law when the robbers struck. There were also two children in the house. Mr. Gowda, a geologist working in Hassan, was away.

The robbers, armed with sharp weapons, entered the house after Ms. Jayamma opened the door on hearing voices outside. Incidentally, their pet dog did not bark when the robbers entered.

The robbers asked the residents, who were in a state of shock, not to raise an alarm and told Ms. Shashikala to show them where the gold and cash were kept. Before going upstairs with her, the robbers gagged and tied the hands of the others and locked them in the kitchen. The police said that the robbers took away gold ornaments and cash kept in an almirah. Before leaving, the robbers cut the telephone line and took away two mobile phones.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Krishnaraja Division) Vishnuvardhan said the exact value of the stolen articles and cash had not been ascertained by the family.
