Davangere: The Davangere district telecom has launched the GSM fixed mobile instrument for the first time in the Karnataka telecom circle and people could insert any of their mobile SIM cards into it and use the phone just like a cell phone any where in the country. Though it is not as small as other mobile handsets, it is very handy.
S. Jyothi Shankar, General Manager of the district telecom, was speaking at the BSNL Mela here on Monday. He said that people could send SMS with the help of the instrument which has a phone book to store the important telephone numbers of the users.
The BSNL would give a charger, rechargeable battery, data card and a Bindas 54 SIM card along with a special voucher of Rs. 45 for those who buy the new instrument costing Rs. 2,184. He further noted that those who buy the instrument will get the Bindas 54 SIM card free of cost along with the set with which they can make calls at one paisa per second.
Mr. Jyothi Shankar said the district telecom has continued to give rent-free wireless fixed landline connections to rural customers at Rs. 250 for two years with ten free calls per month.
For this rural communication facility, installation charges of Rs. 300 has been waived.
Even in Broadband connections, installation charges of Rs. 250, registration and security deposits have been waived, he said adding that the subscriber would get free usage for the first 15 days under all the plans. A modem costing Rs. 1,040 will be given free of cost to subscribers of the BSNL broadband connections, he added. Earlier, Mr. Jyothi Shankar inaugurated the BSNL mela by lighting a lamp at the Customer Service Centre.
