Bangalore: The four hospitals attached to the Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI) are facing a severe shortage of anaesthetists. “We have a total of 30 anaesthetists in the four hospitals and we are in dire need of 10 more. We are conducting walk-in interviews to appoint these specialists and four will recruited soon for Bowring hospital,” said G.T. Subash, Dean and Director of BMCRI.

Replying to queries, Dr. Subash said: “Our idea is to ensure that the waiting period of patients to be operated is reduced. Now we have 10 anaesthetists in Bowring, 11 in Victoria, nine in Vani Vilas and one in Minto who conduct operations from 9 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. We can utilise the time between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. if we have more anaesthetists.

“Although we are managing with the available staff, we need at least 10 more to ensure that the services of the new ICU are not affected.”
