RSIPL to clear dues of farmers, workers
Crushing may begin next year: Acharya
Udupi: Home Minister V.S. Acharya said on Tuesday that efforts were on to rejuvenate the Dakshina Kannada Sahakari Sakkare Karkhane (DKSSK).
Addressing presspersons here, Dr. Acharya said that the factory had been leased to Ramee Sugars and Infrastructures Pvt. Ltd (RSIPL) for Rs. 31.68 crore for 30 years, with effect from April 1, 2007.
As per the agreement, the RSIPL should have started distributing sugarcane stem cuttings to farmers.
However, now RSIPL had identified technical partners to start the project.
At a meeting held on Tuesday at the Deputy Commissioner’s office, it had been decided that the RSIPL would pay Rs. 12 crore towards clearing the overdue payments of farmers, workers and cooperative societies, he said.
The aim was to start crushing sugarcane next year. RSIPL could also take up projects such as co-generation, production of paper and ethanol, and setting up distilleries, he said.
