Unethical weighing of produce alleged

HASSAN: Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha activists Kumar and Basave Gowda seized a lorry that was transporting paddy in Belur and handed it over to the APMC authorities on Tuesday.

The lorry contained paddy bags and a weighing machine.

Speaking to presspersons, Kumar and Basave Gowda said a trading company purchased paddy in large quantities in Gendehalli and surrounding areas by using ordinary weighing machines although it was mandatory to use electronic machines. When the bags were weighed by electronic machines, each showed a weight increase of 2 kg.

Each bag had to weigh 25 kg but showed 27 kg. Farmers are unfortunately paid only Rs. 25 kg a bag.
