The Rs. 6-crore building will be opened today

The structure has office space of 57,918 sq. ft.

It will house offices of 16 departments

HUBLI: The long-pending demand of the people of Hubli of having various government offices at a single location has been fulfilled with the work on Mini Vidhana Soudha on Lamington Road getting completed.

The Mini Vidhana Soudha built at a cost of Rs. 6 crore will be inaugurated on Monday.

The former Deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani and Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa are scheduled to participate in the inaugural ceremony.

The building has come up at a place adjacent to the Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation, where earlier the old buildings of the offices of Hubli tashildar and taluk panchayat existed.

The work on the Mini Vidhana Soudha began when the Janata Dal (Secular)-Bharatiya Janata Party coalition Government was in power. Mr. Yeddyurappa, who was then Deputy Chief Minister, had performed the bhoomi puja of the project in November 2006.

The four-storeyed building having three towers has office space of 57,918 sq. ft. Barring the ground floor, there are auditoriums on all the other three floors for various departments to hold their official meetings.

The building will house offices of 16 departments, including revenue, taluk panchayat, treasury, survey, sub-registrar, social welfare, information and others.

The Karnataka Housing Board has constructed the building and will take care of the maintenance.

Although the building will house several offices, the parking facility is inadequate, which has already been criticised by many.

Since the project on constructing a multi-storeyed parking complex near the Idgah Maidan will take some time, the Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation plans to make use of the open space of one acre available to it after demolishing the old PWD building near the Idgah Maidan for parking.
