Hubli-bound Tipu Express stopped
MYSORE: Residents of Palahalli, including schoolchildren, senior citizens, farmers and daily-wage workers, turned out in big numbers at the village railway station on Saturday and stopped the Hubli-bound Tipu Express demanding a halt of all passenger trains at the village.
“After the Mysore-Bangalore railway line was converted into broad gauge, none of the passenger trains have been halting at Palahalli. This has caused difficulty to commuters from the village,” the residents, who blocked the train for over 20 minutes, said.
They said that though a new railway platform and a ticket counter were constructed, the railway authorities had not taken any action to stop passenger trains . Palahalli, they said, was the biggest village of Srirangapatna taluk, with a population of over 10,000. Students, Government employees, farmers, labourers and artisans travel daily to Mysore, Mandya, Maddur, Channapatna, Ramanagar and Bangalore, from Palahalli, they added.
