Bangalore: The household name in Kannada light music and the national award winner playback singer Shimoga Subbanna was felicitated on his completing 70 years here on Monday.
“Gauravaanvita Gaayaka Subbanna,” a book on the life and achievements of Mr. Subbanna was released on the occasion. Releasing the book “Rashtrakavi” G.S. Shivarudrappa said that Mr. Subbanna was a synonym for melody and affability.
Explaining his association with the veteran singer, Prof. Shivarudrappa said that the rendition of some songs such as Kaadu Kudure Odi Banditta (a poem penned by poet Chandrashekhara Kambara for his experimental film Kaadu Kudure that bagged national honours for Mr. Subbanna) and poet the late Gopala Krishna Adiga‘s Yaava Mohana Murali Kareyito Doora Teerake Ninnanu by Mr. Subbanna has elevated the tone of the poems to the point of sublime.
Speaking on Mr. Subbanna, critic B.S. Keshava Rao said that Mr. Subbanna mesmerised none other than the former Prime Minister the late Jawaharlal Nehru at the Mysore Town Hall way back in 1959.
Release of Badakurina Daariyalli, Ayda Aravattu Kavitegalu and Baaro Baaro Basavanna authored by Arjun Koratkar, Ravi Upadhya and Ho.Na. Satya respectively and felicitation to Bhujanga Shetty, Dilip Rangrajan and the numerologist N.S. Murthy marked the event.
Chairman of Kannada Book Authority Lakshminarayana Bhat and Director of Bangalore Doordarshan Mahesh Joshi spoke.
