BANGALORE: Former cricketer Mohammed Azharuddin, who recently joined the Congress, said he would contest the Lok Sabha elections from the constituency chosen by the party high command.

Mr. Azharuddin, who was here on Thursday, told presspersons that he would hold consultations with the party leadership on the constituency from where he would contest. “The party will decide from where I will contest. I will discuss the matter with them before a final decision is taken,” the former India captain said when asked if he was open to the idea of contesting from any constituency in Karnataka.

“It was time I did something for the general public,” he said before adding that he chose the Congress as he was attracted towards its programmes with regard to education and health, besides its secular ideology.
