‘Deve Gowda issued statements without verifying facts’
JD(S) trying to politicise every issue: Minister
HASSAN: Minister for Tourism and Infrastructure Development G. Janardhan Reddy said on Wednesday that former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda had issued statements on airport project in Bellary without verifying facts.
Mr. Reddy told presspersons here that there was a private airport at Torangal, 25 km away from Bellary city. The small airport could not be expanded as it was surrounded by hilly terrain, the Minister said.
As Bellary was developing into a mega city, it had been decide to construct an international airport, he said and added that the process of acquiring “barren” land at Chaganur and Siriwar villages, under the Bellary Rural Assembly constituency represented by him, was on.
Residents of the villages had voluntarily come forward to give up their land for the airport project, Mr. Reddy said. He said that none of those who staged “rasta roko” on National Highway 63 near Bellary on Sunday in protest against acquisition of land for the airport project were residents of the two villages. He alleged that they were workers of the Janata Dal (Secular) and they had staged the protest without giving notice to the authorities concerned.
The protesters had assaulted Deputy Superintendent of Police (Bellary Rural) G. Sangeeta, he said and added that the JD (S) was trying to politicise every issue in Bellary.
Mr. Reddy said that no one could dislodge B.S. Yeddyurappa from the post of the Chief Minister. He was confident that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would win all the 28 seats in the State in the Lok Sabha election.
Health Minister B. Sriramulu, former Minister B.B. Shivappa and president of the district unit of BJP Navile Annappa were present.
