The Konkan Railway administration has initiated stringent disciplinary action against delinquent employees for their negligent and careless attitude which has not only caused pecuniary losses but has also tarnished the image of the organisation.

A spokesman of the Konkan Railway Corporation (KRC) said here on Thursday that it had always been the tradition of KRC to give utmost priority to customer care.

Recently, the management received certain complaints from the general public and passengers in particular about the careless/ arrogant attitude and functioning of some ticket checking staff on trains, he said.

“In order to ensure that KRC staff perform their duties in utmost sincere and efficient manner, various preventive checks and surprise inspections are being carried out regularly,” the spokesman said.

During one of such surprise checks conducted by the Vigilance Department of KRC against ticketless travellers travelling by 12133 Up CSTM – Mangalore Express on April 21/22, it was observed that on-duty ticket checking staff Prakash Bansode, Pravin Daware, Shailesh Sawant and Raghavendra Devadiga were found sleeping in the train, he said. Moreover, during this check, 133 cases of unauthorised ticketless travel were detected.

The KRC management had promised the passengers that such acts would not be tolerated and dealt with sternly, the spokesman said.
