It will function from May to March

Bangalore: It will be a first for Bal Bhavan in Cubbon Park. This year, the children’s park in the heart of the city will start a kindergarten.Set to begin from May 1, the kindergarten will see children learning through play activities.

Divya Narayanappa, administrative officer of the Bal Bhavan Society, told The Hindu that the society would take up the project on an experimental basis. “We decided to launch the kindergarten as we had the infrastructure for it. We wanted to make use of the facility available to the extent possible,” she said.

Children would be provided ample opportunities to learn through play activities.

“The children will be ‘taught’ by experienced teachers. We are yet to appoint teachers. We believe that children learn better through play activities, which also helps them develop self-confidence and self-esteem,” she said.

Ms. Narayanappa said the society was targeting children of working parents living in the central part of the city. Not more than 50 children would be admitted. “We will start operations even with 30 children. We hope to get many inquiries from parents,” she said.

Admissions to the programme would be based on first-come-first-served basis. “We will start the kindergarten from May 1, 2009. The summer camp for children will end on May 17. We are starting early, as we want parents to have a sneak preview of our programme,” she said.

The kindergarten would function from May 1, 2009 to March 2010. Applications would be issued from April 1. Teachers would be recruited after admission of children, Ms. Narayanappa said. The fee for the kindergarten programme is Rs. 350 a month. Parents have to pay two months’ fees in advance.

For details, contact the society office between 10.30 a.m. and 6 p.m. on working days or call 08022864189, 22861423.
