Members of the Bharatiya Jai Bheem Dal staged a dharna outside the zilla panchayat here on Monday. They sought action against officials and members of the Kanaji Gram Panchayat in Bhalki taluk who were found to have allegedly misused funds sanctioned under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act.
The members said that a probe by the zilla panchayat had shown that the officials and members of the gram panchayat had misused Rs. 65 lakh by creating bogus labour lists and work orders. They alleged that despite this, the government had not taken any action against the officials or members.
They demanded that the government initiate disciplinary action against the officials. Maruti Kante led the protest.
