If you are interested in Phad painting, an ancient art form in which painting is done on cloth using natural colours, you can turn up at PageTurners Bookstore on M.G. Road to learn the art from the traditional artists themselves.

Banna Creations, in association with PageTurners, has organised Phad painting workshop on May 26 and 27, and June 2 and 3.

A press release said this form of painting was native to Rajasthan and used natural colours.

The backdrop

Originally, scenes from epics and folk tales were painted on large scrolls of cloth that formed the backdrop for stage performers while they narrated their stories.

Phad scrolls date back to about 1,000 years, the press release said.

The workshop would be held between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. at PageTurners, 89, Kannan Building, M.G. Road. For details, mail bannacreations@ gmail.com
