BANGALORE: As many as 21 calves that were allegedly being taken to a slaughterhouse in Shivajinagar were rescued by the Akhila Karnataka Prani Daya Sangha, on Saturday.

All calves were three to seven days old, and they were dumped in a small vehicle. Two of the calves later died and five were taken to hospital, a release from the sangha said.

The vehicle was spotted at Koramangala, the release said and added that the calves were bought at Chandapura market in Anekal taluk.
