BANGALORE: Two persons murdered a sleeping watchman of a temple and took away Rs. 2,000 in cash and a few valuables in Doddabanasawadi in the early hours of Sunday.

The police gave the name of the watchman as Eshwarachar (45), a resident of Doddabanasawadi.

According to the police, the two burglars came into the old Anjaneya temple and saw Eshwarachar sleeping near the office. Fearing that he may shout for help, a burglar hit Eshwarachar with an iron rod around his neck. The watchman died in the temple premises. The burglars later broke open a cupboard and took away the cash and valuables estimated at Rs. 2,000. The burglars tried in vain to break the offertory, the police said.
