It will provide an opportunity for budding talents
Bidar: Long-standing complaints that artistes of Hyderabad-Karnataka do not get the appropriate platform to display their talents may be redressed at the 72nd National Kannada Sahitya Sammelana in Bidar.
The Kannada Sahitya Parishat will allow over 350 artistes to perform during the three days of the sammelana.
Dance and music
The programmes are going to be different, says entertainment subcommittee president B.H. Patil and secretary Shambhuling Waldoddi. Programmes will include classical, folk and light music, variety of dances, one-act plays and folk opera.
Programmes will start at 8 p.m. every day and end at 3 a.m. Groups of artistes' representatives from all regions in the State will be invited. Names of teams and artistes have been finalised, Mr. Waldoddi said.
As many as 24 teams from Bidar, Gulbarga, Raichur and Koppal will participate. Fourteen teams from other districts will also perform.
The highlight will be the evergreen classic "Sri Krishna Parijata", to be performed by the professional theatre artistes group of Bijapur.
The Sammelana reception committee has decide to deviate from tradition a bit. This time, there will be a performance between two discussions.
"We want to use the 5-10 minute gap between discussions to provide an opportunity for an artiste to perform before a crowd of over 20,000," Mr. Waldoddi said.
Chance for new talents
Local talents will sing the state song "Jai Bharata Jananiya Tanujate", during the inauguration. Budding singers will also croon Vachanas of Basaveshwara and other Sharanas. A special show of poetry recital will be organised.
Applications were invited from artistes and processed at Bidar and Bangalore. Applications of artistes from Hyderabad-Karnataka were decided here.
The rest were sent to the parishat central committee in Bangalore, Mr. Waldoddi added.
