Raichur: Secretary, Department of Primary and Higher Education, M. Vijayabhaskar, who is also the in-charge Secretary of the district, has directed the zilla panchayat to serve show-cause notices on executive officers of the five taluk panchayats in the district for their failure to achieve the target under Bhagya Jyothi Scheme.
Mr.Vijayabhaskar, who chaired a monthly review meeting of the Karnataka Development Programme here on Thursday, said that as per the annual target under the Bhagya Jyothi Scheme in the district, the zilla panchayat has to take up electrification of about 2,400 houses covering 12,000 beneficiaries in each taluk. But the scheme was not implemented properly even after nine months of this financial year.
He said that failure of the executive officers of the taluk panchayats to submit necessary proposals to the division concerned of the Gulbarga Electricity Supply Company (GESCOM) has affected the interest of beneficiaries. None of the officials in all the five taluks panchayats has been able to reach even 50 per cent of the target.
He found that only 600 proposals were processed under the scheme in Raichur taluk, 249 proposals in Manvi taluk, 210 proposals in Sindhanur taluk and 180 proposals in Deodurga taluk.
He directed the Chief Executive Officer of the zilla panchayat, Aditya Amlan Biswas, to issue show-cause notices to all executive officers of the taluk panchayats concerned for their failure to achieve the target under the scheme and ask them to reach at least 50 per cent target by the end of this month. He also directed Mr. Biswas to initiate legitimate action against those officials who fail to show the anticipated progress.
Expressing displeasure at the poor implementation of relief works in the flood and rain-affected villages in Sindhanur taluk, Mr.Vijayabhaskar noted that officials in Sindhanur taluk have not been able to show progress in relief work. He asked the Chief Executive Officer to write a letter to the Department of the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj recommending stringent action against Veerabhadraiah, Assistant Executive Engineer of the Sindhanur sub-division of the zilla panchayat engineering division.
