Bidar: Swami Vivekananda strongly believed that courageous efforts can change the system for the better. That is why he continues to inspire generations, Swami Jyotirmayananda, head of the Vivekananda-Ramakrishna Ashrama said in Bidar on Thursday.
He was speaking at the National Youth Day celebrations at Nehru Stadium on the occasion of Swami Vivekananda Jayanti.
"Most of our young men are pessimistic about their life or society.
They seem to desperately want a change, but do not know how that will be brought about. The best solution for such people is to look at Swami Vivekananda, Swamiji said.
He stood for simplicity and courage of conviction. He strongly believed that social and economic liberation of the masses was more important than their spiritual attainment, Swamiji said.
Deputy Commissioner Munish Moudgil, who inaugurated the celebrations, said Swami Vivekananda's ideals were more relevant today than ever. Swami Vivekananda was one of the first thinkers to float the idea that the youth of India could be organised into a powerful force, Mr. Moudgil said. Nehru Yuva Kendra convenor Govindrao Nayak said the National Youth Week celebrations will begin on National Youth Day.
