BANGALORE: For those watching sports channels frequently, the Spelling Bee contest needs no introduction.

This is a contest for testing the knowledge of English of schoolchildren by asking them to spell out difficult words and tongue twisters. Students are provided the definition of the word, its usage, part of speech and its language of origin. The answers are to be given within a minute.

Those interested can participate in the Annapurna National Spelling Bee Contest, 2006, which starts on Friday.

The contest will be held at 10 a.m. at St. John's Auditorium here on January 24. It will also be held in Cochin, Chandigarh, Delhi, Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai and Kolkata.

Student of classes IV to VII can participate in the competition, which will have three rounds.
