Akshaya Patra Foundation's new steam boiler kitchen begins functioning
MANGALORE: Corporate responsibilities should go hand in hand with social responsibilities. The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (ONGC) and Mangalore Refineries Petrochemicals Ltd. (MRPL) believe in fulfilling their social responsibilities, Chairman of ONGC and MRPL Subir Raha said here on Sunday.
At the dedication function of the new steam boiler kitchen developed by the Akshaya Patra Foundation in Mangalore, Mr. Raha said that ONGC is keen on implementing the four visionary points as specified by President A.P.J Abdul Kalam. There are several ways to fulfil social responsibilities, and as a corporate body, ONGC will make sincere efforts to meet all of them, he added. He said since MRPL is observing its decennial this year, it is keen to participate in the development of the social sector, particularly in knowledge and educational empowerment in and around Mangalore.
He said the coastal Special Economic Zone in Mangalore, which is going to materialise soon, will attract investment to the district.
The new kitchen developed by the foundation began functioning on Sunday, and a few students from nearby areas were served food by Mr. Raha; chairman of the foundation Madhu Pandit Das; N. Yogish Bhat, MLA; and officials of ONGC-MRPL.
Mr. Das said the kitchen has been expanded to prepare food for 25,000 students.
