Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease are metabolic disorders, for which there is no complete cure

DHARWAD: Governments in the State and at the Centre should come forward to fund research on neurodegenerative disorders, V.I. Hukkeri, Registrar, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, has said.

He was speaking after inaugurating a national level seminar on `Management of Neurodenegrative Disorders Challenges and Opportunites' organised by Soniya Education Trust's College of Pharmacy here on Sunday. Neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson's Disease and Alzheimer's Disease are metabolic disorders, for which there is no complete cure at present.

It is essential that the governments fund research on the topic, he said.

Since it is not possible to induce the disorders in animals, it has become extremely difficult to produce drugs for these disorders, Prof. Harish, Member Secretary, Board of Examining Authority of Karnataka, said.

H.V. Dambal, President of Soniya Education Trust; Roopa H. Dambal, its vice-president; S.V. Dambal, its secretary; and V.H. Kulkarni, college principal, were present.
