MYSORE: The National Egg Coordination Committee, in association with the Department of Animal Husbandry, will conduct an egg and chicken mela in the city on Fridayto dispel fears of consuming poultry products.

This was necessitated following a decline in demand for poultry products in the wake of reports of bird flu in the country.

As a result the local poultry owners were badly affected and it may take at least a few more weeks for normality in the consumption pattern to return.

A public awareness camp will also be launched to allay fears on bird flu.

The free mela will be held at the Town Hall from 11.30 a.m. Among the dignitaries participating in the mela are Mayor Bharati and former Union Minister V. Srinivas Prasad. About 1,500 kilos of chicken and 20,000 eggs will be served to the public free of cost in a bid to encourage them to consume poultry products.
