BANGALORE: The first video enquiry counter in south India was inaugurated on Wednesday at Yeshwantpur Railway Station. Trilok Nath Perti, General Manager, South Western Railway, launched the service by making a symbolic enquiry.
The new system facilitates easier enquiry. Those enquiring about trains and services should speak into a microphone near a television screen.
The person on the television screen answers the question. Mr. Perti said the facility will be soon be introduced at the Cantonment and K.R. Puram stations.
He also inaugurated two platform ticket vending machines at both the entrances to the railway station Yeshwantpur Market side and Tumkur Road side.
Pre-paid taxi counters
Mr. Perti inaugurated the pre-paid autorickshaw and taxi service counters at the entrance on Tumkur Road.
Mahesh Kumar, Divisional Railway Manager, Bangalore Division, said a building housing a ticketing area, dormitory, airconditioned retiring room and a cloak room will come up at the railway station in three months. The station is being upgraded at a cost of Rs. 27 crores.
