Yeddyurappa participates in party’s ‘Jana Spandana’ programme

SHIMOGA: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa participated in the Bharatiya Janata Party’s “Jana Spandana” programme in various localities of Shimoga on Saturday seeking support for his son B.Y. Raghavendra, who is contesting for the Shimoga Lok Sabha seat as the party candidate.

He addressed meetings at Sharavathi Nagar, Koramara Keri, Gopala, Hosmane, Bapuji Nagar and Gurupur.

He highlighted the welfare programmes launched by his Government in the past 10 months and his priorities for the comprehensive development of the State.

He appealed to the people to extend their support to Mr. Raghavendra in the election.

Minister for Energy K.S. Eshwarappa, adviser to the Chief Minister K. Diwakar and councillors N.J. Rajashekar and Channabasappa accompanied him. Addressing an election meeting at Kallihal in Bhadravati taluk later, he said that he was committed to implementing the welfare programmes which he had demanded as the Leader of Opposition in the Assembly. He said that the former Chief Minister S. Bangarappa, who represented Shimoga in the Lok Sabha for 12 years, did nothing for the development of the constituency. “It is time to decide whether the non-performing MP should be re-elected,” he added.

The Chief Minister said that Jewargi in Gulbarga district was rated by the D.M. Nanjundappa Committee as the most backward taluk in the State from where the former Chief Minister Dharam Singh was elected to the Assembly for nine times. Sorab taluk occupied the second place in the list of the backward taluks in the report of the committee. If re-elected, Mr. Bangarappa would make the entire constituency the most backward.

He urged the people to evaluate the performance of the BJP Government in the State for the past 10 months and vote for the party candidate.

President of the Shimoga Rural Unit of the BJP M.S. Mahendranath presided over the meeting.

MLA K.G. Kumaraswamy, the former Shimoga MP Ayanur Manjunath, former MLC Shantaveerappa Gowda, former Minister G. Basavannappa and the former member of the National Commission for Women Nirmala Venkatesh were present.

Mr. Yeddyurappa led a roadshow here on Friday evening from Ramanna Shetty Park.
