BANGALORE: The Sampangiramnagar police recovered stolen gold jewellery worth about Rs. 1.5 lakh with the arrest of Ramanamma (21) and her brother Venkataramana (35), both natives of Madanapalli in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh.
Ramanamma was employed as a domestic help in the house of Sumitra on K.H. Road in Sampangiramnagar. Taking advantage of the owner's absence from the house, Ramanamma allegedly stole a gold chain and two bangles, the police said.
The Yelahanka police took Chand Pasha (28) of Kolar into custody and recovered a two-wheeler worth about Rs. 25,000. Two other accused Suresh Kumar and Somesh were arrested in another theft case by the Yelahanka police and gold jewellery and a vehicle were recovered from them.
The Yelahanka New Town police arrested Omkara Murthy of Allalasandra and recovered a digital camera and a mobile phone, all worth about Rs. 30,000. Five mobile phones worth about Rs. 10,000 were recovered from another accused Chethan by the Sanjayanagar police. The Sanjayanagar police also seized gold ornaments worth Rs. 39,000 from Ismail.
One person suffered burns and 12 sheep died in a fire in a timber depot on Pipeline Road in J.J. Nagar police station limits, early on Saturday. The victim, Abdul Majid (25), has been hospitalised. A television set, a refrigerator and other goods were destroyed. The total value of the property lost has been estimated at about Rs. 1.5 lakh.
According to the police, the fire was caused following a short circuit. Majid was employed as a watchman at the depot. Fire tenders later extinguished the blaze.
Mahesh (34), a pedestrian, was knocked down by a mini lorry near a government college in Kamalanagar in Vijayanagar traffic police station limits on Saturday. The victim, an autorickshaw driver, was trying to cross the road when the accident occurred.
The police said Mahesh was a resident of NGOs' Layout. His body was shifted to Victoria hospital.
The mini lorry driver was absconding, the police said.
