Three-day Chirantana Utsava-06 from May 5

DAVANGERE: Over 150 students will exhibit their talent in various cultural activities such as tabla recital, Hindustani vocal, Bharatanatya and freestyle dance at Chirantana Utsava-06, a three-day cultural festival organised by Chirantana, an academy of performing arts, from May 5.

Deepa and Gopalakrishna of Chirantana told presspersons here on Wednesday that new students would be given an opportunity to display their talent at the culural festival. The event, is being organised by the organisation for the fourth year in succession in Davangere.

Since there is a dearth of teachers in Hindustani vocal, tabla and Bharatanatya, Chirantana had appointed teachers from places such as Bangalore, Shimoga and other places to come and teach students here at regular intervals, Ms. Deepa said.

Ms. Deepa said Chirantana had organised cultural programmes in Bangalore, Belgaum, Hubli, Chennai and Gadag.

It had organised programmes by Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, Maya Rao, Shymala G. Bhave, Master Hirannaiah and Yashwanth Sardeshpande in Davangere.

Entry for the three-day programme is free.
