It is aimed at conserving the rare manuscripts at Kodi Math

HASSAN: Shivananda Shivayogi Rajendra Mahaswamiji of Kodi Math of Arsikere inaugurated here on Saturday a mobile conservation laboratory to conserve the rare manuscripts collected by the math. It was set up by the Manuscripts Conservation Centre of Salar Jung Museum, Hyderabad ,recently.

laboratories to conserve the rare manuscripts available under the "Save Manuscripts Heritage" programme, envisaged by the National Mission for Manuscripts. The laboratory had been set up to conserve, restore and reorganise the rare collection of manuscripts at Kodi Math. Bidyadhara Biswal and Vinod Kumar, experts in manuscripts conservation , have been deputed to the math, he said.

Of the 30 palm-leaf manuscripts in the math, two were rare and about 400 years' old. There were some important paper manuscripts too, which would throw light on cultural heritage, he said. Mr. Ali said the mission planned to strengthen conservation activities by targeting the most endangered manuscripts for curative conservation. It would be done by training a pool of conservation specialists on preventive conservation, he added.

Holistic approach

The mission would develop a holistic approach in locating, documenting, protecting and making accessible the significant information on the country's existing manuscript heritage, he said.
