CHIKMAGALUR: Chikmagalur district recorded 76.26 per cent polling in the South West Teachers' constituency and 61.90 per cent in the South West Graduates' constituency in the elections to the Legislative Council conducted here on Saturday.

Sringeri taluk recorded the highest polling with 85 per cent and 80 per cent in the teachers and graduates constituencies respectively and the lowest polling was in Chikmagalur taluk with 70.54 per cent and 55.37 per cent.

A new polling station was established in Kudremukh this year to enable voters in the surrounding areas to exercise their franchise. Men outnumbered women by more than three times in both segments.

Men could be seen standing in line in the polling stations in Chikmagalur to cast their votes in spite of the sudden downpour.
